Why Analysis?
Molding problems are costly to solve. Problems associated with the part design after the tool is built cost significantly more time & money to resolve than the price of an analysis (performed from an Expert Analyst). Our preventative engineering approach identifies potential problems (warpage) prior to releasing part data to the tooling source. CAE can significantly reduce trial & costs simply by identifying part design related issues prior to “cutting steel”.
- Reduce engineering time
- Elimination of costly trial & error methods
- Identifying part design issues
- Optimizing gate size/location
- Evaluate hot runner designs
- Determine proper # of drops
- SVG/VG
- Improve cooling design
- Reducing cycle times
- Elimination of shrink fixtures
- Identify cause of warpage
- Recommendations to minimize part warpage
- Reduce tooling costs
- Improve part quality
Why CAE Services?
- Degreed professionals
- Expert certified analysts
- Consistent analysis approach
- Detailed final reports
- SVG/VG
- Prompt support, delivery and response
- Core buisness is Moldflow analysis
- Technical center with Molding machines
- Correlation studies
- Largest staff in the world
What is your analysis capacity? How is pricing determined?
Our capacity is up to 200-250 molds per month depending upon part complexity and analysis objectives. Analysis pricing is based on part complexity, and the analysis level required. To determine pricing please send part data via our website: caeservices.com/brochure-analysis-quotation-requirements-intro
Are you familiar with proper modeling techniques?
Or the short-cuts taken which could compromise analysis accuracy? In an effort to be competitive, an inexperienced firm may attempt to simplify the model to reduce pricing. CAE’s staff simply will not compromise model integrity in order to reduce pricing. We go to great lengths to insure our model is properly meshed. This is a 3 step process which includes our primary modeling staff, the project engineer as well as the engineering manager. Collectively, the team reviews each model to insure our standards are maintained. Please ask all potential vendors how they intend to model and analyze your parts in an accurate and timely manner?
We recommend that all our analysis vendors use Moldflow’s Insight, shouldn’t we expect the same results from all?
Unfortunately, you will receive varying results from each analysis provider. Just as people are different so too are Moldflow analysis providers. Software doesn’t solve the problems, people do! With that said, CAE Services has an engineering staff that is well versed in identifying and solving any given molding problem. Our “Expert” team of analysts have years of Moldflow experience, they understand tooling, materials, hot/cold runners as well as processing. Simply owning software doesn’t equate to expertise. Expertise is obtained through proper training and experience. In conclusion, since not all moldflow providers are trained equally or have the same level of experience it is impossible for all vendors to provide the same results.
Manifold, material suppliers, and tooling sources can provide Moldflow... what value does CAE Services offer?
Great question! There are a number of reasons.
- Our core competency is Moldflow analysis.
- Experience, our staff has analyzed over 30,000 projects.
- CAE evaluates all aspects of part & tool design as well as processing conditions.
- CAE manages the process and communicates results with manifold supplier, tooling sources and product designers, process and tooling engineers.
- CAE can evaluate various materials without bias.
- Our primary objective is “part centered“, we will make recommendations to reduce part warpage, and improve the processing window.
- Solutions! We provide more than pretty pictures. We offer recommendations to solve problems.
Note: Our focus is on your part. The vast majority of issues are part design/warpage related. Getting us involved prior to sourcing your mold builder will significantly reduce trial and error costs simply because we identify part design related issues prior to “cutting steel“
Some consider having your moldbuilder source your Moldflow analysis / My thoughts
We understand that “single sourcing“ will generate less paperwork and maybe easier from a purchasing perspective, however, please be sure to properly define your analysis expectations & objectives with your tooling source. How does your tooling source currently select a Moldlfow provider? Is the decision based on price? ... company history? ... location? ... delivery? ... expertise? ... accurate results? Are “Expert“ analysis required? How many projects have they completed? What is their experience regarding warpage? Do you require accurate results or are trends acceptable? In most cases, material and manifold suppliers are experts in their respective fields, and in light of this Moldflow analysis typically (there are exceptions) is not their core competency. CAE Services has been providing Moldflow solutions since 1988. This is our core buisness and our expertise!
Who is responsible?
At the “end of the day“, the responsibility of proper gate locations, # of drops, cycle times, weld line locations, and warpage, falls not on the tooling or manifold source but rather with the end user. That being said, selecting the right Moldflow Analysis Provider to partner with is key to your success.
